Journey Management Strategy Overview
At Roy Transmotors Limited, we are committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees, contractors, and all road users. Our journey management framework defines clear safety standards and responsibilities, ensuring full compliance with local and regional transport legislation across East Africa.
Driver Working Hours Policy
We recognize that driver fatigue is a significant safety risk. To mitigate this, we strictly monitor driver schedules to ensure they are well-rested, fit, and healthy before beginning any journey. All journey plans are structured to include:
- Mandatory rest breaks of at least 30 minutes every 4.5 hours of driving
- Overnight stops, where necessary, at designated rest points aligned with the journey plan. This ensures drivers maintain optimal focus and road safety throughout the trip.
- Route Risk Assessment (RRA)
As part of our Journey Management Procedure, a Route Risk Assessment (RRA) is conducted for all routes used to deliver cargo to clients. This assessment identifies potential hazards and ensures all appropriate risk mitigation measures are implemented before the journey begins.
- Fatigue Management
Human error, particularly due to driver fatigue, is one of the leading causes of road accidents—especially in long-distance transit operations. To address this:
- We operate a 24-hour tracking and monitoring center, providing real-time oversight of all driver activities
- We have established checkpoints along key corridors, such as the Northern Corridor, where drivers stop for rest, wellness checks, and fatigue assessments
This proactive system helps prevent fatigue-related incidents and enhances overall journey safety.
- Road Patrol Services
Our Road Patrol Services are an essential extension of our commitment to safe, reliable, and compliant logistics operations. These patrol teams operate across East Africa, providing in-transit support and conducting routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with all operational standards.
Key Road Patrol Functions Include:
- Cargo Seal Verification
- Ensuring seals are intact, confirming cargo security and integrity throughout transit.
- Pressure Tank Drainage: Routine draining of pressure tanks reduces the risk of mechanical failure and promotes safe vehicle operation.
- Unauthorized Goods and Passenger Checks: Preventing transport of unauthorized items or individuals to maintain compliance and safety.
- Journey Plan Compliance: Verifying adherence to approved routes and stops, minimizing deviations and delays.
- Safety Belt Enforcement: Ensuring all occupants wear safety belts at all times for personal protection.
- Loose Object Checks in Cabins: Identifying and securing loose items that could pose hazards during transit.
- Reflective Jacket Compliance: Confirming availability and condition of reflective jackets to enhance visibility during emergencies.
At Roy Transmotors Limited, our journey management, fatigue control, and road patrol systems reflect our unwavering commitment to operational safety, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction. Whether navigating local terrain or cross-border routes, we go the extra mile to ensure every journey is safe, controlled, and efficient.
